Downtown Cleveland Neighborhood Guide

A Neighborhood Like No Other

Downtown, home of Cleveland’s striking skyline across Lake Erie, serves as the city’s hub for business, entertainment, and the arts. While Downtown Cleveland is known for its enterprise and entertainment components, the neighborhood also boasts a thriving residential community and stunning apartment buildings. Offering both city energy and waterfront charm, Downtown Cleveland is an ideal place to call home.

The cultural center of Cleveland lies in its Downtown neighborhood. The nightlife, the theater district, and museums offer endless opportunities for entertainment and exploration. Three different professional sports teams call Downtown Cleveland home, making it easy to catch home games for the Browns, Guardians, and Cavaliers.

The neighborhood is, for the most part, bustling. Certain parts of Downtown Cleveland, however, provide pockets of quiet and relaxation. The shores of Lake Erie contain bike baths and sandy beaches, and yacht clubs and marinas make it easy to spend a day out on the water.

Downtown Cleveland: Home

Downtown Cleveland is one of the oldest districts, with Public Square having been mapped out by Moses Cleaveland himself back in the late 1790s. There are 18 must-visit attractions in Downtown Cleveland, from historic landmarks to vibrant entertainment spots including the House of Blues.

Downtown Cleveland is well-connected by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA), offering trolleys, buses, a BRT system, and trains for easy travel throughout the city and into the suburbs. Plus, its proximity to major highways ensures a smooth commute and convenient driving around town.

Downtown Cleveland: Culinary Delights

Food lovers will find plenty to savor in Downtown Cleveland, with a diverse array of restaurants. The area is also known for its thriving craft brewery scene. Local favorites include:

+ Cordelia: This restaurant’s tagline is “Midwest Nice” – and they walk it like they talk it. Order a la carte off of Sunday Brunch of Supper menus, or go for “Bellie Up,” a tasting menu of highlights.

+ Marble Room: An opulent Steak and Raw Bar set in a historic bank dating back to 1921. The ambiance strikes awe, and you can enjoy your dinner surrounded by Cleveland history.

+ Noble Beast Brewery: Independently owned and operated, Noble Beast features a unique (and delicious) slate of rotating drafts. They host weekly trivia on Tuesdays, which is even better when paired with a plate from their seasonal food menu.

+ Velvet Tango Room: Velvet Tango Room has some of the best cocktails in the city, and they host live jazz and piano music 6 days a week. Pro tip: Happy hour is over two hours long, Monday through Friday.

Downtown Cleveland: Attractions

There is so much to do in Downtown Cleveland for tourists and locals alike. Here’s a sampling of how you could spend your free time in The Land:

+ Museums: Kids will love the Cleveland Children’s Museum, and visitors of all ages will enjoy the Cleveland Museum of Art, the NASA Glenn Visitor Center, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

+ Entertainment: Highlights include The House of Blues for live music and the Playhouse Square Theaters for Broadway and other stage productions.

+ Sports: Downtown Cleveland is home to the Browns, the Cavaliers, and the Guardians. Enjoy live sports year round!

+ Environmental Attractions: Visit the fishies at The Greater Cleveland Aquarium or take part in hands-on scientific exploration at The Great Lakes Science Center.

Downtown Cleveland is packed with even more incredible attractions beyond what we’ve covered here. We invite you to explore all this vibrant neighborhood has to offer!

Downtown Cleveland: Parks

Downtown Cleveland’s prime location along Lake Erie gives residents easy access to nature right outside their door. Many of the attractions above sit along the waterfront, and several nearby parks provide great spaces for pets, energetic kids, or a relaxing escape. Local favorites include:

+ Edgewood Beach and Park: Soft sand makes for perfect summer afternoons complete with beach volleyball and splashing around in the waves.

+ Wendy Park: Touted by Cleveland Metroparks as one of the best locations in the state for bird watching, Wendy Park also contains a fishing pier and picnic area. They also host League volleyball five nights a week! Wendy Park trends a bit towards The Flats neighborhood, but its proximity to Downtown makes it a must-visit.

+ Voinovich Bicentennial Park: This park offers some of the best views of the Cleveland skyline. One of the most picturesque locations along the shoreline, Voinovich is a favorite for Clevelanders.
